Play Xenoblade undocked then play it docked. Literally makes a PSX looking game look like a current gen game

The dock really doesn't do anything other than provide additional USB ports and an HDMI port.

The Switch just increases its GPU clockspeed when docked.

my point being, i want something that lets it unleash 1080 and smoooooother framerates, 60fps, etc

and maybe it can turn on without the switch in it, so you can have different functionalities for games
could be like the wii u almost

in theory they could do that but I'm not sure how exactly they would implement it or if it would be feasible

maybe in a year or two they'll do a Switch XL or something that just runs docked speeds all the time or something

Hell, the X1 and to a lesser extent the PS4 almost never hit 1080p 60fps.

There are a ton of 60 fps Switch games - nearly all first party games except Zelda.

Ironically a lot of games run worse in docked mode because the jump from 720p to 1080p requires a GPU boost more significant than the Switch gets when docked.

Not quite. It also provides power straight from the AC. It's possible they tested a "high power portable" mode and found that it was too hard on the battery (got too hot / wore out too fast / caused charging issues later)

yeah I watch a lot of Digital Foundry and this is pretty common(and not too dissimilar to what happens on some PS4 Pro/XB1X games when going from 1080p to 4K)

makes me wonder if there is some way for Nintendo to enable a "boost" mode though, where the new portable mode is closer to docked speeds and the new docked mode would just be a clean boost to CPU/GPU clockspeed

ofc this would have to be a hardware revision, but the X1 is so old at this point I would think Nvidia and TSMC could squeeze a bit more juice out of it if they wanted to

I don't think it's that feasible. There's only some USB ports that they could use to do that. In that case the PS4 and Xbox One could also use add-ons for extra juice but they don't.

Honestly, I know this is superficial but it never stops blowing my mind that the Switch's graphics are closer to current gen than PS3/X1, but in such a comically small tablet. It feels far less hamstrung by its hardware than the Wii did back in 2005.

it's crazy how good the console is

it's like 2.5x thicker than most phones you know
but still so great
