Even higher resolution? Seems like diminishing returns would take effect before too long.

Color depth is already pretty insane too. But really, that's probably less susceptible to diminishing returns than resolution.

I read something that suggests after 8k resolution the human eye can't distinguish different pixels on any reasonable viewing distance / display size combination.

So short answer is nowhere. have to do something else that isn't resolution related like HDR

I got a 55" LG 4k LED TV. I really want one of those wallpaper OLEDs. Those things look incredible. I get to much backlight pollution on my TV while those OLEDs are truly deep blacks and colours.

Depth of color and SWAP (size, weight, and power). Remember when HD TVs first came out and they were the size of a small car? Then Plasma came out and they were thin but like 200 lbs? I suspect we'll see a big leap in those things next since the content has yet to catch up to 4K and ISPs are screaming for an excuse to throttle things.

So expect something like an affordable 4K tv that you can roll up, stuff in a tube, and take with you places.

Better frame rates.

You'll want better interpolation. We can already get really good framerates but nothing is recorded in those framerates.

Additionally there are some diminishing returns when it comes to video games.

instead of pushing i'd much rather have affordable pricing for widespread consumer adoption.

rather not hand out an arm and a leg for an OLED TV nor do i want to blow what easily amounts to a down payment of a car to achieve 4k/60fps/max settings.

I'd rather see them improve input delay. Computer monitors have been hovering at 1-2ms for years now whereas some of the best "gaming TVs" are still around 10ms and even major brands are putting out 30-40ms input delay TVs.

IIRC OLED tvs are super fast on response time, they're just insanely expensive.

And one of the biggest issues with tvs is the HDMI bandwidth is just not very good.

I think 8k will be critical for future VR experiences and might actually be able to get it off the ground considering most VR now has you effectively looking at like 240p-360p quality within your FOV
