i think its because i was so close to this one

there's a guy at work who's kid got shot and was in surgery

one of my closer co-workers has two little siblings that were in the building that the shooter was in and had to run past dead bodies to get to safety

a guy that lives down the hallway said that he works at the school and is going to 3 funerals tomorrow

i just saw a clip on the news of a funeral being held at a Temple that i drive by every day

i can't imagine what these families are going through

The sad thing is, you'll probably might have to go through this again in a different location. We all might because guns are worth more than the lives of people.

They're all unbelievably horrible but people in this country don't want to fix the problem. Mental health care and guns are both things we could make better but we don't do either. It'll be hard to fix for sure but people are content with not even trying, and its absolutely pathetic.

I used to work with somebody who lost both parents in the 2015 Tunisia beach shootings, which left me in a similar position to you. The guy came to see me, I remember him knocking on my door and I opened it and didn't know what to say, I was lost for words.

the one that fucked me up was Sandy Hook. I mean jesus it was like 6-7 year olds, cornered in the back of a classroom getting shot like fish in a barrel.

This guy shooting up a school had nothing to do with white nationalism. You're just wanting to turn this into an anti trump thing.

yea, to help cope with a lot of the tragedies in this world, it's easier to imagine victims as being these remote people you might never have interacted with, until you or someone you know was affected, and the illusion is wiped away.

like, a friend of a friend died at the Las Vegas shooting and that ended up getting to me more than some of the others

I mean if the dude wanted to kill black people (or minorities), there's hundreds of high schools that have a shit ton more black people than that.

I work in schools for a living. 2 of the 4 I go into, if someone shot it up, would have mostly ALL black victims. So I don't think race really motivated this.

Quite a few posters here seem to have some sort of relation to a lot of these shooters. I'm pretty sure a GameFAQ's poster survived the Dark Knight Rises shooting.

Vegas hit me bad. I always wanted to go there. Now it's gonna be in the back of my mind if I ever go there. That a lot of people were gunned down just over there from that big hotel.

doesn't matter. he was a white supremacist who killed a bunch of white people anyway. those types are dangerous regardless of the color of anyone's skin.

according to the link i posted, he hated white women who were in interracial relationships anyway

I'm not disagreeing with you, but obviously him going apeshit was not motivated by race, but you still find a reason to bring Donald Trump into this in the same sentence.

Now you're gonna say he wanted to shoot white girls who fuck minorities. Reach a little further why don't you?

The school has a large Jewish population. And regardless of if it was racially motivated, the fact remains that he is a domestic terrorist who was racialized and trained by a paramilitary hate group who will likely never be charged with anything due to the innate racist nature of our justice system.

Because people are looking for excuses as to why he did what he did. Using "White nationalist" makes zero sense cause he called almost all white people.

It's overlooking the real cause which was certainly severe mental illness.

And anyone saying other wise is being disengenuous.

You also can certainly have individuals who just say they're into something just to be apart of something.

It is incorrect to pin this on white nationalism or the alt right or whatever as "proof these movements are dangerous"

Unless there's information that confirms or at least suggests the shooting was specifically motivated by those viewpoints. Because it's not like school shootings need those motivations anyway, lots of them have happened without them.

If you need to look somewhere for proof of the dangers of racism and nationalism and such, nazi germany tends to be a pretty good starting point. It's already obvious to a lot of people where all this boiling over hate and racism can lead and has in the past. Don't need to piggyback on school shootings to make that point.

There's plenty to rail against Trump and his party over regarding this shooting though, but unless there's clear evidence to suggest this shooting was motivated by alt-right ideals, that's not one.

Following misrepresentations by a white nationalist leader and coordinated efforts by internet trolls, numerous researchers and media outlets spread a seemingly false claim that the man charged with killing more than a dozen people at a Florida high school belonged to an extremist group.

Parkland is a rich city.

Lots of rich folk there.

Sadly this country responds to money. Change in these kind of thing doesn't occur until rich folks get hurt.

Same reason the war on drugs isn't as heavily fought in rich neighborhoods. Because if it did, reform would be a stone's throw away.
