I just reached another hint of foreshadowing, hiding beside the much larger one in the scene - this time in the standard history fault line were you just met Eruca. After the initial "I know her, but that's impossible." reaction from Stocke, Eruca makes mention of the fact that the Granorg royal family can control Mana, albeit ever so slightly.

Then you think back to those times Stocke was able to pick up those special abilities with no problem whatsoever. The one learned from Aht, that she said only he can learn? It lets you see disruptions in Mana to locate obscure objects. That special ability Stocke was able to learn, just by watching Heiss do it in a battle? Also likely a mana ability, given its source.

I'm really appreciating how subtle the game is being with presenting Stocke as more than just an SI/military guy, even outside of the context of using the White Chronicle.

RH is a very smartly written game. One of the best RPG plots I've played, and probably the best written of the multitude of DS RPGs.

And Stocke is far and away my favorite protagonist. He regularly fails (and then uses those failures to change the future), knows how to act (as in, play a role), is "surprisingly" good at diplomacy, and even gets an... oddly satisfying bad end where he elopes with Raynie and watches the world end

I don't know how comforted I am by the ending, though. The real ending, with the true boss. I don't know if they've done anything to change it in this release, but it's got such a bittersweet tone to it in the original. The standard ending is just heartbreaking, though. It's like Fry's dog in Futurama, only in video game form.

I think both endings are fantastic. I actually like the standard one more, but the true ending is a nice shout out to the player for busting your ass resolving all those sidequests.

How much new stuff is there?

Several new missions and a new dungeon that are ancillary to the main quest. The new missions attempt to explain what happened to the old Empire.
