Actually, I made this topic because I was watching a documentary about opiates. A law enforcement official said they have had to resuscitate the same people multiple times, and some people are calling for them to stop. The drug users don't make any effort to end their addiction, and it just uses up the paramedics time when they could be saving other people.

The desperation to end this epidemic has not brought out the best in everyone. Recently, Middletown, Ohio, city councilman Dan Picard proposed that paramedics not respond to addicts upon a third overdose.

Critics decried the proposal as unbelievably cruel. Picard countered that many didn't understand just how bad the situation had gotten in his city, where "out-of-the-box thinking" was now required.

By Picard's estimation, each overdose response costs the city $1,104. At this rate, he says, emergency services eventually won't be able to respond to other calls and "the city's going to run out of money." The city, meanwhile, is not even sure Picard's proposal is legal. However if lawyers determine that it is, it will come up for a city council vote.

I know several people who were addicts and ended up getting clean and being a productive member of society. At least one of them I know for sure OD'd and managed to be revived.

I also know dozens of people I went to school with who continued to steal from family, friends, and members of the community. And OD'd over and over until they finally died.

Yes they should be revived. These are peoples children and theres always a chance for recovery

I have no sympathy for thieves though. If you Rob someone to feed your addiction you are human s***. And I think you should have no mercy from the law. But still revive them.

Why? Because I asked an uncomfortable question that some government officials are asking? I haven't made any statements about my views on the matter--I just asked the question.

Just because an official asked it, doesn't make it any less a disgusting, stupid question.

Doesn't mean I can't make a topic about it.

Only if they're doing it constantly in a short period of time. Something like 5 ods in like a 3 month period and then they're cut off.
