what a stupid thread. How did you quantify the excitement level differences from this supposed black community?

Blade was an R-rated movie
Didn't have a majority black cast
Didn't have a black director, executive producer, writer, or costume designer
Wasn't Afrofuturistic
Didn't have the weight of popularity superhero movies of today have behind it
And wasn't set up to be a box office juggernaut

Identity politics didn't exist then, so there wasn't this tribal mentality or rush to virtue signal by left-wing whites.

People just did the mature thing and evaluate a movie based on how good it was, not by the skin color of the film crew.

Hilarious that you always claim to not be racist but you're always the first to use race as the cause of blame.

It's a good movie not just because of the "skin color" of the actors. Stop using such a bullshit argument about a movie you probably haven't seen. It's a piss poor weak as hell argument to just assume shit like that arbitrarily. Guess a movie with a black cast can't be well received to the great admiral. smfh

You don't usually have such poor reading comprehension, so not sure why you're so worked up here.

I never once said the movie was bad, nor did I claim it was good "just because of the skin color of the actors." But the ridiculous attention it's getting from the media -- being compared to Obama's election and such -- is because of the skin color of the actors. And the reason black action movies didn't get this kind of treatment in the 90s was because America didn't have this ridiculous race obsession that's been fueled by the identity politics movement.

It has nothing to do with reading comprehension. I'm referring to the blatant implications and the specific wording in your post. A movie can be good AND speak a message about race (although I'd say this movie doesn't even go far as I expected it to go all preachy on me and was surprised that it wasn't). The people making this out to be such a monumental movement are clearly in the minority, even if they're a vocal one. You only come across as daft by acting like those are the majority of the people hyping this movie up.

Black Panther is getting support from various circles, and yes, I do agree that some circles are bad, but they do not encompass all of the fervor pushing this movie forward.

This is also ignoring the fact that not only is Blade specifically a poor example, there aren't as many movies that have as high of a budget as this movie, have tons of support from various groups of people, and it's the movie preceding a sequel to one of the best selling movies of all time. Of course it was bound to be hyped up.

Because back in 1998 people had learned that race doesn't matter. It didn't matter that Blade was black because we had already learned as a society that skin color is irrelevant. Your value as a person was all that mattered. Then people regressed back to literally calling for segregation on college campuses a few years ago. Sad times.

Yurp. Racists only came about recently. Mid 1900s were the peak time for people of color.

Like I seriously hope you don't believe that bullshit. I dislike hardcore liberals as much as the next guy, but let's not be idiots about this. The topic of race being brought up recently isn't one sided. It's both sides that are shitty.

I didnt say anything about the mid 1900s. I was talking specifically about 1998. If anything the mid 1900s were awful for people of color but we as a society grew out of the rampant oppression of those times and learned to co-exist untill recently.

God forbid kids in the black community actually are happy to see a mainstream superhero that they can identify with and look up to.
