There are accounts whose entire gimmick is bumping dead topics, to the extent that their name is e.g., M3sterybumper.
I'm just curious, what more does it take to qualify as actual trolling/disruptive posting?

It doesn't necessarily bother me. I just think there's a mismatch between what I would consider obvious trolling or disruptive posting and the way the rules here are enforced. So it'd be cool to hear a rationale.

If they just post *bump* or *wise fwom yoe gwave!* then it should be modded.
But if they bumped it by commenting something remotely relevant, leave them alone.

The best answer is if you're the topic creator and don't want it posted in anymore, lock the topic.

This really isn't a focus of the mod staff anymore unless it's a long string of nothing but bumps.

Are you saying that the actual posts just have to be some form of "bump" or does posting non-sensical BS just to keep it alive also count?

Also as it's been pointed out, there's a group of users dedicated to doing this, so why not deal with them?

Bumps are valid for some threads. Plenty of topics just elicit a few responses since they dont really offer any potential for debate

It's not really the same when the TC bumps his own topic. This is about a guy just going around and posting "lol" every two or three days to keep the topic from purging.

bumping and multiposting are two of those rules that forums always have because every other site has them and not because they're actually important or significant rules
doing it en masse is obviously a problem but it's otherwise made way too big a deal out of

On other forums it can be a legit problem when people bump topics that contain outdated information I guess

lol but seriously, I'm not sure what topics you guys are seeing anymore since I only post in topics where TC and at least two other users are still engaging in the topic, even if it is just meaningless banal things, (which aren't violations, just check out the RI board).

This is one of those threads. Not only is the TC still active there, but there's actually quite a few posters that are still involved in that thread. Outside of CE most topics aren't rapid paced with users constantly debating (and attacking) each other. I can understand how CEmen see that as the norm though.

There's literally multiple points on the last page alone where that topic would have purged if not randomly posted in on that day

Lol yeah there were topics with entire lines of deleted messages from where the necrobumper came in with alts and deleted the previous messages cause no one posted after him

I mean if you want to spend your time switching between alts and bumping random topics all night fine but don't pretend people are having a conversation

Look at post 103ish - 113.

The topic died, and in the span of 2 weeks, Mysterybumper bumped this topic around roughly the same time each night for 2 weeks. Each post had me tagged. I would get a notification every morning when i logged in from this, but each time the post was deleted, and this account did this crap every day for 2 weeks in that topic alone.
There is no reason for an account like this, WHO HAS THE NAME MYSTERYBUMPER, to be active. I have never ignored any user since 2000, this is the only one i ever had to.
