I decided to hit up the best buy used to work at almost a decade ago and when I walked in, I still saw some of my coworkers STILL HERE from almost a fucking DECADE AGO. What the fuck.... these are the same people that told me they were going back to college or find a more stable job elsewhere.... But no, they're still fucking here.

Dude I'm 35 and worked at Walmart at 17-18 and there are at least 3 people who I worked with who are still there. I can't imagine how anyone could be okay with working nearly two decades at Walmart.... It's mind boggling.

Especially since there are plenty of manufacturing jobs they could start in tomorrow and make more than their current Walmart salary.

I had a similar experience while working in retail. It actually showed me that college isn't for everyone. Some of the people I worked with ended up going to trade schools and are paid pretty well now.

yeah there are alot of trade industries that require specialization that pay way more than any bachelors degree can get you.

Some people are content with that.

My friend from high school started at Wal-Mart months after graduation and is still there, and happily so, 8 years later. We've talked about jobs as recently as a month or two ago, and he's proud of his Wal-Mart job and seemingly has no plans to leave.

I'd never do it, but for some people, it's good enough.

I work at Costco entering my tenth year and they pay is too good (make 27 bucks an hour), the benefits are terrific and I get bonuses twice a year somewhere around 1200 bucks ish on top of my regular paycheck. It's not the most glamourous job, but in todays age with so many people looking for work its a tough thing to leave with all of the above in mind.

There's a few dudes still working at the grocery store I worked between the ages of 18-22

I offered to get one of them a job at my new place making 4 more dollars an hour and he turned me down because he likes only being 5 minutes away from work :/

I dont see the big deal here. Actually probably a good thing for them that they are still working. If not there, would likely just be at another retail place or in the restaurant industry.

Clearly he's very concerned about the welfare of his former retail co-workers!

I really hope they're managers, at least. More and more retail places are essentially requiring degrees to be store managers (or at least to be put on a "fast track")-- but in most large retail stores there are several decently paid positions below the store manager.

I don't work at Costco but my friends girlfriend does and she is killing it. It really seems like a solid, steady career choice if you can handle the BS retail entails.

I work at Costco, the bonuses are 2500 every six months. Goes up to 3k at 10 years then 3.5 at 15 and 4k at 20.

some people are content with living in a 1 bedroom apartment and having minimal shit

of course those people (that work full time in retail) always bitch non stop.

I also know a person that could prob do better but his parents are rich so he just doesn't care.

I can think of classmates from a single course in college I was in, two guys who sat at the same table as me, and a decade later one guy is making < $30,000 still at the same university as a clerk, the other guy is a lawyer making $300,000, and I'm somewhere in the middle.
