This happened a few weeks ago but I forgot about it, until I realized it was one of those things you people would say never happened, so here.

I was loitering in a Wal-Greens to stay out of the cold on my way somewhere when I overheard this black lady yelling at the staff, I heard pretty much all of it since I was there awhile, and she just kept going on and on in circles.

So her "problem" was that she made an $8 transaction and at the end of it she decided she didn't want one of the items that was already rung up. So the clerk had to cancel that transaction and start a new one. When this one was complete, the woman's card was denied because of insufficient funds. She said that couldn't be right because the first one went through and cost more, but the clerk tried to explain that the $8 from the first transaction was probably being processed by her bank and wasn't yet in her account since it was sent back by the store.

Simple story, but she just could not, or chose not to understand. She and the clerk went back and forth until she asked to see the manager who said the same exact thing. The whole time she kept insisting that they give her a cash refund for the $8, since she "spent" it but wasn't able to buy anything she came for. They explained that they couldn't refund her because they didn't have her money, at which she would scream that it was right there, pointing to the cash register (who knew swiping a card made money appear out of thin air?).

At this point it wasn't even time for me to be going, but I was so annoyed that I grabbed some candy and went towards the checkout. Meanwhile she had gone to check the ATM which is right by the check out/door, and started screaming again when she saw the $8 still wasn't put back on her card. At this point I wanted to hit her with something but restrained myself and handed her a $20 bill (I only had 20s, or else I would have given her 10), and told her she should be able to get what she came for with that, putting on my best smile.

She thanked me very nicely but on my way out I heard her say to one of the clerks that she still wasn't going to leave until she got her $8 and I had to stop myself from saying anything more.

I guess the moral of the story is: "Don't bother helping crazy people."

If she was going to get something else, they should've given her store credit, then returned any funds that she didn't use...
