Mental health is no bueno in us. Talking about it is still taboo for a lot of people. Having problems is seen as a sign of weakness.

Maybe being able to block what you don't like lowers your tolerance for annoyance/frustration.

Meaning is the key word here.
A lot of people fail to give meaning to their lives, and living in a society that only values material wealth and instantaneous gratification doesn't exactly help, either.

I don't know, there are a lot of people who live like shells, purposeless and fucked up. They can only see simple things, like social status, sexual appeal and power. Not being able to have any of these things means the worst thing ever to them.

There is a bully culture in America and it isn't limited to schools or children. However, it impacts children more.

I'm not justifying school shooters by any means but how many of them were bullied? How many of them went through their daily life being picked on in person and social media and then finally snapped?

Schools are just too damn big.
This causes the vast majority of the students to feel left out and ignored, while the troublemakers and disturbed are essentially lost in the pile.

-Media attention
-Social media contributing towards mental health deficiencies
-Tribalistic society, thanks to major differences among the populous in religion/politics/race/etc.
-Lax gun laws
-Lack of real punishment and monitoring of delinquents

Lots of reasons, really.
