It's a weird form of Japanese censorship. The idea is that it's okay to hit them because they're "men." Super Mario USA and Yu Yu Hakusho did the same thing with transgender characters.

Most characters in video games are conventionally attractive representations of whatever gender they decide to present as. Just like in movies.

Pretty much everyone in video games is, but trans people in particular are played up to make developers feel like they really trolled everyone. They sit back with grins on their faces thinking we're all like

"OMG SHE'S SO HOT HOLY CRAP I CAN NOT HANDLE THE HO--WAIT WHAT? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

When in reality we're more like "oh so there's the SJW statement" and move on.

I always liked the chemistry between Iron Bull and Krem, where they created environments where they could both be themselves. Consider DDS's Jenna Angel (intersex, not trans), who's hedgehog syndrome is a behavior learned after a lifetime of rejection that turns dangerously bitter when she loses her lover in a terrorist attack. Or Kaoru (also intersex) from TSW who willfully works for the evil Phoenicians because they're promising her a life without judgement and fear.

You can see a recurring theme for these characters: fear of other people wrought from negative experiences fitting into society. These aren't uncommon complaints for actual TGNC and intersex people today, who find they have difficulty 'passing.' And if that's political, it's only because life is inherently political.

Oh shit, i forgot about Angel from DDS. Apparently in Japan she's just a chick, but in the US version, they made her a hermaphrodite, which doesn't change anything in the plot, so idk why they did that >_> Also at the end of DDS2, You fuse with Sera and become Seraph and gain Ardha as your demon form. Both of which are hermaphrodites in the game >_>

God, DDS is such an awesome game though. I wish they would make a 3rd somehow

Poison is not trans, she's a girl. The only reason that came up is because apparently at the time video game violence against women in Japan was a no no, so they just said she's a dude. At least that's what I always heard. It was just a BS method of getting around censors or whatever.

(newhalf) seems to be quite the broad term I've read it's used to refer to transvestites, transgenders and transsexuals (both pre and post-op), its use seems exclusive to MtF though.
