I loved the dragon warrior monster games when I was younger and never new it was related to dragon quest and there were more games.

I thought it just died out because people viewed it as a Pokemon rip off, even though while similar, it never felt that way to me. Especially with the awesome breeding system, the arena, and just everything.

Are the games for the DS as good? The dragon quest monster games?

the Joker games are good but different from the classic Dragon Quest Monsters games on GBC, I felt Joker 2 was better than the first Joker

on 3DS there is also a remake of the original DQM that is Japan-only but got a fan translation if you have a capable system, a remake of DQM2 that I don't think has a translation yet, and an all-new Joker 3 that was fan translated recently

there's also a Japan-only GBA title which is sort of a prequel to Dragon Quest VII, once more, fan translated

if you haven't played Dragon Quest VI, the hero of DQM and his sister are party members in it
