If we're talking "polar opposite", then no. No matter what, we'd have to be able to find some kind of common ground or else the relationship doesn't really have a future.

I mean, I'm all for engaging with people with different political views than me, but I don't know if I could *live* with and raise children with someone that far on the other end of the scale.

Honestly, I'm a pretty politically minded person, and one of several things I'm looking for in a companion (and I feel we all do regardless of knowing it or not) is someone to sound off on ideas, opinions, and complaints, regardless of whether those are political, religious, social, anime, etc. If I come to my girlfriend and want to vent about something stupid the president did, I'd be looking for support and understanding, not an argument about how he's going to fix the country if we'd just give him a chance.

Fortunately I live in Mass right now, so I'm not especially worried about being too picky in that regard.

Republicans and Democrats aren't opposites in terms of their overall political philosophy. Both believe in big government and for the most part their policies only slightly differ.

I'm very far left, I'd consider dating a moderate centrist but it really depends which right wing opinions they had.
