About halfway through episode 7. Really enjoying the show so far, except I think Quell's view on ending immortality is unbelievably stupid. I appreciated that Kovacs expressed some doubt (in Ryker's sleeve) about whether or not they were even doing the same thing, but I'm worried that the show will present that anti-immortality viewpoint as the "correct" viewpoint rather than show more of the negatives of that view.

I'm still not hooked three episodes in (as in, where I have to restrain myself from marathoning the whole series in two days or less). Too much sex stuff. Some elements are silly (non-super rich people are being prevented from backing up their stacks, how?).

Backing up stacks is an expensive process.

I liked it a lot, as a fan of the books. I didn't like how they pushed Virginia Vidaura and Quell into the same person, or how they changed the Envoys.

That's the silly part. This stack is small enough to fit in a human brain, and somehow that can't be backed up unless you're super rich. Flashdrives today can be backed up for super cheap. And don't forget that this problem existed when Kovacs was in his original body. 200 years later and they still haven't reduced the cost of back-ups so that the middle class can afford it too? It's contrived.

I still do not understand people bitching about the sex in the show. It's absolutely a realistic situation that once you've removed the majority of religious sexual mores and set up a world where people can indulge in all their most debauched fantasies with little to no consequence that they will in fact do so at every opportunity. Sex is one of our most basic primal urges.

Not really. Did you ever think that in a world like that where the rich are effectively gods to the masses that they might set things up to continue that way?

I think back-ups require use of that ancient tree that's really rare. Or I think there was legislation against back-ups. I'm not sure actually. I'd have to watch the earlier episodes again to remember what's the deal with the back-ups.

i think the back up is legal its just that you cant jump into two sleeves at the same time. but if you're rich and powerful laws dont matter.

I'm pretty sure that it's just that it really expensive to constantly have to beaming your stack to a secondary location. It's double sleeving that's super illegal.

Yeah, because people would totally be having sex in their MOM's bodies out in the open if such a tech were possible. A non-religious society would not consider that disgusting. No way!!!

It had nothing to do with it being her mom's body. It had everything to do with the super sexual upgrades that the mom's clones had that she wanted to try out. You should probably stop watching the show if you are missing basic points like that.

The books do an excellent job of showing that, if you live long enough, you begin to care less and less about the moral facets of society; you, being the elite and essentially immortal, are above them.

And it isn't just backing yourself up that is expensive; buying sleeves is also an issue for the poor, hence why there's a conversation when Kovacs is leaving the sleeving facility about the little girl who got resleeved in an elderly woman's body.

Because that's what was free and what was left.
