I had to claim my kids tax credit, earned income on the baby and 2 dependents and I figured itd be complicating this year for me to do it. Or I could go back and forth with the guy I paid $80 to do it last year, but I have to shit in the mail since hes a family friend and it took forever..

So I figured H&R Block would be a good option.. then I got finished.. and I realize it was $341...

Yeah, I never thought to check it, that was my fault. But good God why the fuck is an hour of their time worth almost $350...

So half of my state tax is gone. Oh well. Lesson learned.

How complicated is your taxes to do ?

Mine only took like 20min and was only charged like $90.

It's some Mom and Pop place that has been doing Taxes for like 70 years.

^ That.

Between the missus and I, we had income from four different states, got married, sold a property, rolled over a retirement account, had HSA distributions and contributions, and had some income from investments, and we just used TurboTax to file everything.

Here's hoping we didn't fuck up somewhere and get audited though lol.

I used TurboTax once and was afraid of something like this happening despite my taxes being the easy type.

So I just save it for the Pro mind to deal with.

That's like $150 probably so you would've saved some money.

If your taxes comprise a single W2 and that's it, sure. Once you get into investment income and rental income and deductions and kids and write offs, a professional knows so much more about it than you do that you will save money going to them compared to trying to do it yourself.

It's truly bizarre that rendering to Caesar the things that are Caesar's is so damn complicated that there's an entire industry surrounding it.

H&R Block is legitimately a scam. Most of the "tax professionals" you see are temp employees only hired during tax season, and only have minimal training.

You better of using Turbo Tax or Tax Slayer.

I've been told that they used to claim for anything they could get away with and got audited a lot so now they're super timid about what they claim for so you're probably missing out on a few deductions yet they still charge like they're actually helpful.
