I'd personally suggest dropping a few thousand on Bitcoin/Ethereum

hahahahahahahahahaha.

why do you still do this.

Because Ethereum is going to shape the world and there will only be roughly 100,000,000 so you might as well buy it when it's still cheap.

do you think Elon Musk is the greatest human being ever? Like a modern day mix of Edison, Einstein and Henry Ford?

'very conservatively' wasn't totally honest since I did put some play money in eth
I entered late, however, and that is mostly in recovery mode (if ever)

i mean honestly my advice that people buy this dip right now isn't really looking any more profitable than his illogical bullishness on crypto

but meh fuck it i'm locked in and so are all of you

i guess we can revisit this in a few years. meanwhile i should really focus on doing my actual job.

Either 1) it comes back and as long as you held or were smart enough to buy the dip all is well

or 2) the stock market is actually crashing and money will be useless anyway as we cannibalize each other in our self-inflicted post-apocalyptic hellscape

So nothing to worry about

i mean

crashes have happened before

it sucks not to have cash available to deploy during a crash because that's how people get rich

Mutual funds 100%. I think individual stocks are for suckers.

This is what causes market cancer, fueled by the myth that stocks in general can only go up. This attitude is probably our greatest threat.

given the relative VIX I would be inclined to think it'll hold. but I clearly know nothing.

edit: got rejected pretty hard.

Am I being confused by a difference in naming convention?

Aren't passively managed funds Index funds. Mutual funds are the actively managed ones.

Your attitude is causing a passive investing bubble inflated with irrational moves and heavy leverage since people just "like making money" without putting any effort in. You're a pig at a trough telling others that it's guaranteed free money over time. That's sucker talk.

You're betting that the US, as large and behind future minded policy as it is, is going to continue grow at great pace and be the shit forever. What if we're actually not that special? If you threw money with a passive approach in the late 90s, you'd only just recently be getting your money back. All for what? 2% above taxes and inflation?

Individual stocks should be a part of the portfolio. If you're not smart enough to pick any, it's time to start investing in making yourself better. Or at least understand what you're betting on and the effect it will have on all of us.

that is more or less the basis of the argument for having a portfolio that includes more international stocks than you'd get in VTI

passive investors can still do that with access to stuff like VXUS.

It's good that it's Japan heavy, but then we're faced with the problem of broadly picking countries. Our South American friends were once pretty popular until we found out that they're more corrupt than we knew even just a few years ago.

i mean...VXUS is index-weighted, it's basically just the S&P1500 of 'errbody else.'

I regret not taking more money away from cryptos to buy more stocks during the dip, but honestly fuck it. Stocks are just a long term avenue to further extend every bit of my crypto gains, so further investments are an afterthought for now.
