If you make $50K annually on average while being single vs. making a household income of $100K with your wife, isn't the latter a good thing? In fact, I think you break even.

But you get moved into a lower tax bracket when you're married, and you get to claim children as dependents. Plus there are the saved expenses you get from living with a spouse.

Two people making $50,000 on their own have higher costs of living vs two people making $50,000 living in the same home pooling resources. It's not until kids enter the equation that it starts getting expensive.

You will spend some of that 50k on your partner. Either through bills, or gifts, or activities that you otherwise wouldn't have.
