Christians are seen as a "power group," so left leaning folks (especially young ones) feel like they have complete freedom to attack them the same way they do with whites, men, rich people, etc.

You'll notice the criticisms of Islam are never quite as loud and definitive from these same people, despite the fact that that religion is causing a lot more harm in the world today.

It causes the most harm in America, where most users live.

It's not that Christianity is hated in particular, it's just the one we need to interact with the most. Other religions are also awful

I'm not anti-Christian. But what harm has Islam caused me specifically?

I don't know why you're trying to dress "People complain more about things that are more present in their lives" up as some liberal/conservative split, especially considering how many of the edgy atheists on CE are right wing.

I don't think most people here lived somewhere where if you didn't follow a certain religion (or follow it "correctly"), you might be shunned or even physically attacked. Now that would actually negatively affect your life, unlike being forced to go to church every Sunday or to a religion class

But that isn't the religion's fault, it's the followers' faults.

Why do you have such a persecution complex about this, TC? Bashing Christianity was a much bigger thing online 5-10 years ago. There's likely more people on this board that defend dehumanizing business practices under flimsy pretenses of "religious freedom" than there are anti-theists at this point, and even then most of the people on here who criticize Christianity are somewhat tolerant of moderate Christianity.

Christianity is terrible and causes harm to the country. Right.

https://www.americamagazine.org/content/unconventional-wisdom/blue-states-get-dinged-almanac-american-philanthropy

Charitable giving is highest among the most religious

It is not Americans in the high-income, urban, liberal states like Massachusetts or California who are our most generous citizens, writes Karl Zinsmeister in the newly released Almanac of American Philanthropy. Rather it is residents of middle-American, conservative, moderate-income, religiously active regions who step up the most.

http://dailycaller.com/2017/09/10/christians-provide-more-aid-to-hurricane-victims-than-fema/

Christian non-profit organizations have outdone FEMA and provided the vast majority of the relief aid to victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

Faith-based relief groups are responsible for providing nearly 80 percent of the aid delivered thus far to communities with homes devastated by the recent hurricanes, according to USA Today.

That's a really awful example, you know. Whether you believe the Book of Job is literally true or not, the Book of Job is in the Old Testament and Jesus (the namesake of Christianity) comes in the New Testament

That doesn't magically undo all the negative it does.

Many Christian parents drive their teens to suicide for being homosexual.

Many Christians run disgusting puppy mills, justified by "God giving man dominion over beasts."

Many Christians use their faith to be a piece of garbage in life, thinking they're forgiven in the afterlife.

Christianity is used to discriminate against people of different races and sexual orientation.

Many Christian communities deny women rights, justified by their religion.

Statues of the Ten Commandments outside of courthouses tell people of other religions or atheists that they're being judged by judeochristian laws, not the laws of America.

And that's not getting into the plethora of negative ways Christianity affects policy, and centuries of bad policy that's still in place.
