Even if you ignore the fact that these numbers are totally inaccurate (as you would expect from any addy topic) it's still a dumb thing to say.

Young people invest for the long term making these dips meaningless while older people start putting their savings into safer investments like bonds as they near retirement. The only ones "hurting" from this are people rich enough to live off the stock market who are now slightly less rich.

technically if he's including the price action over the last two trading days he did okay relative to the blue chip index. dow 1 year performance at present is exactly 21.4%

odds are his adviser just tossed him in a total stock market index and upcharged him for not letting him fuck it up (which, honestly, isn't the worst thing)

the recent price action made anything i did 2 months ago return zero and anything i did more recently than that get spanked

i'm glad to have some money on the sidelines to enjoy the 2-month old entry point again

This is nothing more than profiting taking, mixed with light panic selling, and computers unwinding shares as the market continued to fall. Some people probably got slaughtered today, but it is what it is. It's tough trading sometimes.

This isn't Trump's fault, though. It was bound to happen and it's reminding me of Aug 2015.

It affects any established person. Even someone who is in their early 40s, made mistakes in life, and has just started to save and invest money and all they have is a few thousand dollars.

This "35% of Americans have 401ks or investments" is hogwash. 16-20 year olds make up a decent chunk of the work force, and they're not old enough in most cases to qualify for an employer based 401k.

The statistic is flawed. There's more people you will meet 30+ years old and working that have some form of investment than not.

What about the 40s and 50s crowd working at Walmart and McDonalds careers? They can get 401K too right? I thought someone told me no. They do deserve it TBH. I know my aunt gets her health benefits from McDonalds.
