Unfortunately people have the unreasonable expectation that professionals with a modicum of power (lawyers, doctors, police officers, etc) should tolerate extreme amounts of immature bullshit without any kind of recourse. They're humans, too. They have lives, children, dreams, hopes, etc. Treating them like shit because you have some goofy political views doesn't just mean you're treating "the man" like shit. It means you're treating a fellow human like shit. And you know what? Most cops I know went into it for the right reason, and they do put their lives in an unreasonable amount of danger relative to how little respect they get. Are all cops heroes? Of course not. I rarely deal with the police in the ER but I gotta say, they've always been surprisingly respectful and chill to the admittedly kind-of annoying medical process. If I were them, I probably wouldn't be as patient.

I relied on just being a human being whose also been through some shit. Related as much as possible, and just treat the guy like he's a guy having a shit day. Helps to use the idea of his kids as leverage. In this case, anyway.
