I would not. However, I would definitely buy the controllers.

Like 99% chance there would be no Rare games which is well over half of the best games on N64 so like why would I want that

But we haven't had any official Nintendo produced N64 controllers since, well, the N64. If they follow the trends of the Minis, then it would use the port that's on the bottom of a Wiimote, and there exist tons of adapters to use those on PC. The prospect of using fancy new official N64 controllers on my PC or otherwise is quite appealing to me. However, an N64 classic as a whole is not.

they use the cheapest, nastiest, buggiest AllWinner ARM boards they can buy in bulk for these things and the only accurate N64 emulators out there end up needing either fully functional GL/Vulkan drivers or infinite amounts of CPU

recipe for hilarity

I think Nintendo would be able to build a pretty great N64 emulator in house. I mean, the Wii has them.

Fair. I'm going off the assumption of no Rare games that Ninty doesn't own

Depends on the price. I'm not paying more than $79.99 plus tax.

I would not. However, I would definitely buy the controllers.

Honestly, it would be worth it just to get a Wii-compatible N64 controller, assuming it reuses the same port.

a lot of Wii Shop versions are actual ports because the hardware isn't fast enough to emulate an N64, they can't do that here because the business model requires cutting every corner possible. $25 ARM board, standard Linux OS with custom SPI drivers for the controllers, in-house emulator (which wasn't perfect the last two times) and ROMs (in some cases downloaded off ROM sites because they lost the originals)

they can't do emulation because the tech isn't there and they can't do ports because someone will figure out how to extract them and run them on a $5 RPi

doesn't mean they won't try anyway

Depends on the games and the price. The only first party classics are Mario 64 and the two Zelda games.

Kirby, Star Fox, and Mario Kart would increase value but I don't think it'd be enough.
