The only reasonable thing to be is agnostic. Because in the end, no one knows anything and pretending otherwise is truly narcissistic.

Not as narcissistic as many of the religious people around here who will attribute things to prayer, their belief in God, etc. While somewhere else in the world there's kids who've never done anything to anybody to get on the wrong side of God or embrace Satan (unless you want to make some dumb original sin argument) crying themselves to sleep while they're sick or starving and they're probably calling out for some divine entity to help them too. Nah, God doesn't care about them, but you, the middle class Joe Averageman family, missed getting in a car crash on the way home because God was protecting you, you got over your sickness because God healed you, your kid playing sports hadn't gotten hurt because you pray before games. You're right about what you think based on nothing but feelings, and everyone else is wrong. Everything you have is because a divine entity is showing you how good you are, because you're special in the eyes of God.

Also, nothing about being an atheist implies you have to believe that humans as we are right now have to be the greatest and/or most intelligent beings in existence. If anything, most atheists probably hope there's something greater or smarter than us out there because we've made it a really low bar to reach... There's a big leap between thinking there could be something better than us to thinking "well obvious a divine entity created this" shit, if a divine entity created all this, hopefully this was their pre alpha trial run because they fucked up real bad if this was their best showing.

We also don't need the ability to do everything in order to have free will. God could have easily made us naturally really caring and gentle as a species, but instead he made us homicidal apes who kill, rape, and con each other en masse daily.

I don't believe that God is directly involved with the Earth's affairs, that's the point of Jesus coming to Earth (Why didn't God just do something directly like he does in the Old Testament?). The Earth isn't a perfect place. Some people have it better than others, especially on the world stage. But there's only so much you can do on your own. You have to live a morally good life with the means you have, that's really all most people have the ability to do.
