Well what else is he going to say? He knows defending what went on in the 70s in general is useless with these type of people, looking at his twitter he is very smart, and progressive.

At least he got a nice ep of G4 Icons about him back in the day, which is how I first learned about him.

the Game Developers Choice awards just took a pioneer award, awarded to those who are pioneers in gaming, from the man that invented video games as we know them, because Brianna Wu for some reason thinks she can make a video game and is screeching as loud as she can. I think he realizes it's pointless to argue.

Nolan Bushnell has issued a statement apologizing if my personal actions or the actions of anyone who ever worked with me offended or caused pain, and said that he applaud[s] the GDC for ensuring that their institution reflects what is right, specially with regards to how people should be treated in the workplace.

I feel like if we didn't make statements like these, and just let people get away with their actions because "it was a different time", then what's to stop people from keeping this up? It was "a different time" specifically because we're making conscious efforts to change. Besides, times aren't so different as one might think.

...giving the award to all women instead sounds really silly, though.

you just said it's fair next to withhold an award for pioneering video games from the guy that founded the video game industry. and for nothing. he didn't even do anything wrong, by all accounts.

The dude got to have pool parties while creating video games and bang hot women. If what he has to pay is not getting a symbolic award later that 99% of you don't care about whatsoever, then please, he got off easy, especially consider he's basically admitted to workplace harassment.

I agree that he probably realized that being anything less than gracious is more trouble than it's worth, but please.

On the AtariAge facebook group, a woman who worked with Bushnell in the heyday of Atari confirmed that a lot of partying and hooking up occurred.

She referenced one exception she knew of (that did not involved Bushnell), but indicated that otherwise it was all very much consensual.

So yea, this is absolutely #MeToo at its vile worst.
