In books or educational videos it is often explained how we invented modern calendar and clock calculation, but the thing that is rarely explained is, how just in a span of the last or so century, like most part of the world agreed to accept something such as global clock, complete with calculation of different timezones and calendar etc.

Different format of counting timed and dates exist, and some are still used alongside modern calendar like the chinese calendar. They are only used in religous/cultural context too, and when it is used, it really is justca complimentary of the regular calendar.

I mean humans rarely agree on something, but with these, we basically succeeded in convincing most of the known culture to use the global standard

You can read about Russia. Up through the early 20th century they used the Julian calendar instead of the Gregorian calendar, making for notable divergences in historical dating. And I believe the Gregorian calendar has also been very slightly amended in line with atomic clocks. Originally a lot of the time zones had to do with railroads iirc.

Sure, when he says the national bird should be the turkey everybody laughs but when he says hey let's change the time twice a year in some places but not others everybody goes along with it.

I mean I would honestly rather have gone with the turkey idea, if one of those two ideas had to succeed.

The Islamic calendar is still in wide use as a lunar calendar and dates years from the first Hajj. The fact that the Gregorian calendar is tied to a Pope doesnt discount its validity as a solar calendar.

"Wide use" compared to what? I mean sure the Jews are keeping their own calendar year as well and the Chinese have a whole other new year than we do, but c'mon, the vast majority of the world uses the Christianity based calendar. Because Christianity won.

Common trade eventually necessitated the emergence of common clocks and calendars, based on the Europeans who were doing most of the commerce.
It's that simple, really. We still have places like Israel and Japan that maintain different year systems, but global commerce is pretty much all done in the Gregorian calendar on GMT-based time.

How is my post not well thought out? Our calendar is based on Christianity as has been proved ITT. And the Immaturity of your post was self evident. If you need to be told why "try harder dude" is an immature response then you shouldn't be trying to contribute to the discussion in the first place.

It's that simple, really. We still have places like Israel and Japan that maintain different year systems, but global commerce is pretty much all done in the Gregorian calendar on GMT-based time.

So mercantilism necessitated the emergence of a common calendar, and Christianity's calendar won that competition. Mercantilism didn't win anything, it just was one of the many catalysts that forced societies to pick a winner.

In reality, I think globalization is what probably got us all on the same page about timekeeping and calendars.

It's too hard for commerce and business to work if everyone isn't on the same page in that sense.

That's why modern "time" began at midnight on January 1, 1970, in Greenwich.

Happened to be? That's like saying the Christian nations just happened to be influential. Religion has been the cause of more wars than anything else and the battles between religions when it came to establishing territory in powerful nations were real. Christianity "winning" the ownership of those nations is exactly what I meant when I said Christianity "won"

Why do you think that's relevant? They're still using the same years which are still based on the Christian religion and nothing else.

Why would you think changing the terminology would even matter?

Man... For someone who came into this topic being so rude and condescending you sure are having a rough go of it aren't you?
