Yeah, I've seen better Perry Mason episodes. It's good but not really top 20 material.

I imagine in the time it was made the concept of how a jury functioned was much more shrouded in mystery and the idea that prejudice could cloud the proceedings like that were bold and daring.

My problem with the movie is that the jury broke the law.

Are you watching it because of Christ Cuckmann making a video about it being a masterpiece, or is this just a coincidence?

lol yeah like I saw it a few days ago and he was gushing about it so much but I pretty much have the same thought of "it's entertaining and good, but it's not a masterpiece"

You know that Blues Traveler lyric about a bad play where the heroes are right? It kinda makes me think of that; except it's the inverse. 12 Angry Men is a good play where the heroes are right.

It's a bit far fetched, but it really is a good examination of the potential weaknesses in the justice system and the personal responsibilities that go into being a member of a jury. That said, the lead juror's saintly behavior does get a bit annoying. With such an unfiltered look at prejudices, personal biases, groupthink, and general human behavior, it seems rather out of place that the lead juror would be such a spotless individual.

The title's also a bit misleading since he never gets heated. I guess "11 Angry Men and a Saint" wasn't as catchy of a title. I have nothing against Atticus Finch types, when they're in the right stories, but this was one case where the lead needed a little bit of dirt under his fingernails. His golden halo might be just enough to keep the story from greatness, but it is still a really, really good story.

Henry Fonda saw the knife presented as evidence and went and bought one just like it and took it into the jury room to explain to the others how it could be completely coincidential rather than point to the defendant. IIRC, that's presenting new evidence in the jury room and grounds for a mistrial.

This pretty much. It was from the days when people had blind faith in institutions, the rule of law and their fellow man. Personally I think it's okay but certainly doesn't belong in even any top 100 lists of greatest movies.
