It's in my top five Zelda games for sure. Maybe my favorite 3D game actually.

Edit: although to be fair, its only competition is Ocarina.

The tree at the end of Knowing (2009 Nicholas Cage movie) reminds me of it. But that movie came years later.

Edit: here it is.

The only Zelda game that genuinely creeped me out. Some of it was dark, especially as I was only 9. The final hour theme always sticks in my head.

I like how the four areas (swamp, mountain, ocean, canyon) all have the same music before you clear the dungeon. The arrangements are different, but the themes are the same. It actually surprised me to learn that most people never noticed that. Good arrangement can disguise a rushed composer's lack of new material pretty well, eh?

I actually think reused themes can be pretty powerful when done well. It takes you back to what happened before, stirs up your old emotions.

I think it was done intentionally. Re-using the same song for all 4 areas gave them all the same mood, while the different arrangements also acknowledged the difference in atmosphere each area was supposed to have. I mean maybe it was partially because it was rushed, but if so, it was used in a clever enough way that its completely forgivable.
