Gay couples have to prove the biology of a child for citizenship. Because the child is only biologically the non-citizens father, he wasnt granted it.

Which is fucking stupid and whoever made the decision is some dour hell-bound motherfucker. Im sure that this is probably fudged most of the time

Nobody's being deported. They're addressing a legal technicality, which is that one of the kids was born of 2 non citizens in Canada. Under any other circumstances, that doesn't confer US citizenship. It only sounds odd because of the twin.

Crap. That's terrible and just. All kinds of messed up. I'm guessing the adoption process in this case was held up especially long because the father wasn't a citizen. The adoption process in general is slow.
