They discuss the merit of builds based on how well they do in the very late game or end game and disregard all the bullshit you have to put up with for...pretty much the entirety of the actual game.

Take a simple example - stealth archer in Skyrim. Usually lauded as the most overpowered, easiest playstyle in Skyrim. And yeah, once you reach a certain point the game is a joke. But what about the first 20 levels? You get your ass handed to you by like 3 stray wolves because you have no armour and no stealth and like 4 arrows that do no damage. It fucking sucks for the first 10-20 hours of playtime.

2) Pay carriage driver to go to Riften
3) Run to Fort Dawnguard's cave entrance
4) Go to Fort Dawnguard
5) Join and get a free Crossbow

You get your ass handed to you 3 on 1 in the early game no matter what. Or if you run into a bear.

You get your ass handed to you 3 on 1 in the early game no matter what. Or if you run into a bear.

I'd say sword and board is a much more user-friendly playstyle. You can actually head into battle early on instead of skating around firing arrows for 20 minutes trying to kill a thug.

Not at all. Fort Dawnguard is always available to visit -- you don't have to wait until level 10 when Isran (?) shows up randomly in a town.
