Liberals and left wingers in the west tend to, however, oppose Islamaphobia and discrimination against Muslims, which often comes from conservatives and the right. So these are groups that, if they don't have shared goals, they have shared enemies. Politics creates strange bedfellows

Islam typically isn't left wing.

But progressive basically tend to have a mindset that involves always taking the side of the party they think is least privileged in any given situation.

So, they will side with brown and black Muslims over white Christians, Jews, or atheists. If you focus down the context to genders they will side with brown Muslim women over brown Muslim men over white non-muslim women over white non-muslim men.

That doesn't necessarily mean they will defend particularly bad behavior, but they will often try to argue that it isn't as bad as claimed, that it's not motivated or exacerbated by the religion, that it's really fault of imperialist whites, play whataboutism with the bad behaviour of Christians and Jews, etc.

Sometimes, they'll ignore it. I think the worst is when they try to hide or or otherwise refuse to address it. We say some of that at new years at Cologne and more at Rotherham.

I think the events at Rotherham are particularly bad because you had the local government and police refuse to appropriately act on little british girls being drugged, raped, threatened, abused, forced into prostitution, etc by pakistani-british Muslim (literal) rape gangs. Because they didn't want to be seen as racist or give oxygen to anti-immigrant and anti-muslim sentiments.

If I recall, a Labour MP recently talked about that as a problem and people in her party attacked her for it. Someone else can fact check me on that.

Eh...

I think it's more like how they interpret the concept of fairness. They want to stick up with brown Muslims because they believe the rest of western society is particularly unfair to them.

Which isn't entirely wrong, but some of the more fervent progressive take it to weird lengths.

Islam is far right, but this is another instance where liberals suffer from Victim Attribution Error and assume they need to be protected due to 1) the color of their skin and 2) because conservatives criticize them. If you were to describe Islamic laws or practices to a liberal without mentioning religion or skin color, they would be incredibly intolerant.

Islam isn't left wing.

The left wing is clueless on Islam and the outcome when more than half of the people in a country which previously wasn't islamic becomes islamic and ruled by those laws.

Unfortunately, for the EU, where i live its mainly the left wing that have had power for the last 50 years. Which explains why its such a mess. I didn't dare say shithole.
