Even though it's online school. And I really need the money so I can get out.

Normally this wouldn't be so bad since I was schedued to graduate this June. But because my anxiety got so bad that I dropped out for over a year, I won't be graduating until summer 2019.

Ugh I'm so fucking frustrated I could cry and scream at the same time. I don't want to be here :(

I only get about 15 hours a week because Washington state laws. Is it possible I can change jobs and lie about me being in high school? They don't ask for diplomas, do they?

You're over 18 right? Just take the GED test, it's the same as a diploma and if you're 18 you don't need parents permission

I wouldn't lie about it... that could come back to haunt you. Maybe look for a job that pays tips or something?

I would've done this already, but I'm scared to. I know that GED's are looked down upon by most employer's. It's seen as a sign of failure. I really don't want to ruin my future job prospects by having to list a GED on my resume

Most job applications don't differentiate between them anymore. The options are

Some high school
HS diploma or equivalent ( aka GED)
Some college
Etc.

It's really not. It's a diploma equivalent. I know several successful people who've gone on to do many great things and build careers who started with a GED.

Well then I suppose you could try lying about being in high school, but in that case you can't say you have a diploma or equivalent because they'd certainly check for that's, while I don't think they'd bother checking if you were in HS currently if you selected "some high school"

It'd lower your chances of being hired but even if it gets rejected it's not a crime to lie on a job application (not counting shit like saying you went to med school and applying to be a doctor obviously)

Exactly. I've applied for plenty of jobs and haven't seen one differentiate between diploma and GED. Made me regret actually graduating and not just getting a GED at 16 tbh

I'll have to think about it overnight and try and do some more research. Thank you :)

If I don't go the GED route I'll probably lie. The type of positions I'd be applying for anyways are college kid jobs anyways

Right, and even then it'd only matter if you were trying to get in to a good college. And there's still a way to do that with a GED. You go to a community college for 2 years and do really well, then apply for the good college

that's fair. Idk I enjoyed high school so I wouldn't have wanted a GED but if TC is just taking online courses then I guess it doesn't matter

Her problem though is she isn't legally allowed to work more hours because she's technically still in HS, so that's why the GED route is better for her situation imo

yeah it makes sense. When I was in HS I worked for tips only so the amount of hours I worked didn't matter. Also I thought HS working laws were only for people under 18. Guess it varies by state

Have you talked to school counselors about this

they usually have resources ( as long as you don't go to an underfunded, overtaxed school) to help you

maybe there are waiver forms you can sign so you can work full time

I know there are restrictions for those who are under 18 such as what hours they are allowed to work, how many hours they can be scheduled per day and per week. I also do not recommend lying about your education because if it is found out about, it can be grounds for termination.

I'm not sure what kind of restrictions there are with freelancing, but you might look into doing that on the side. I did it on the side for a while and made decent money.

I think I'm gonna do it. I'm getting my GED. I'm going to a community college anyways, and hopefully if I do well there I can transfer to a better university

This is lowkey exhilarating lol
