Just dont do alchemy whatever you do. As rewarding as it is, it makes Elder Scrolls games way more tedious than they need to be. I wish I hadnt used alchemy for my Morrowind character. I probably would have finished the main quest in half the time. But having to stop everything and make potions every time your weight capacity is full (which will be very often if you use alchemy) gets Old fast and has dragged the game out sooo long for me. Alchemy is only slightly less tedious in Skyrim because they organized the alchemy menu because your list of ingredients are organized into sublists by their effects.

On the other hand, you can make a LOT of money by selling the potions that youll never use, but this just adds more tediousness to the game and honestly you can make plenty of money just by picking armor and stuff off of slain enemies and selling it.

Unless alchemy is dramatically improved in future Elder Scrolls games, I am never going to make another character who uses alchemy again.

Most OP: Stealth Archer. Do this build if you wanna just steamroll the game.

Most frustrating: Mage. I'm actually playing one on a modded playthrough right now. It's doing a decent job of pissing me off.

Then you have the good ol' warrior build, whether it's sword and board or 2 handed.

Those are the main 3 builds that are considered the default. You can always mix things up, of course. Like rolling a battlemage or spellsword. Or, hell, unarmed.

As for most fun, I've always enjoyed stealth builds. But, yeah, OP.

Stealth characters are always fun as hell.

Be sure to grab the perk that lets you do 15x damage with daggers, and couple that with perks from the One-Handed skill tree to be deadly as hell. In the stealth tree you can invest up to 5 points in the base skill only invest one. Your sneaking will still be OP as hell if you get the muffled perk.

Also I wouldnt invest points in alteration. It gets annoying as hell having to cast a spell every time you want to increase your armor rating (plus without a certain illusion perk, it blows your cover if youre trying to be stealthy). Just invest in heavy or light armor (light armor for sure if youre a stealth character) so your armor works passively instead. Some will say it could be beneficial to invest in armor AND alteration thats a negative. You can reach the games maximum armor cap by only investing points in armor, so investing in two types of armor (or alteration) is a waste of perks.

Don't go stealth. 99% of the time you'll end up as a stealth archer despite whatever else you had planned.

Odd. Ive ended up using my daggers more on every stealth character ive made, unless I specifically intended him as a bow-only character (which doesnt do much for you for close range). Then again, I play on higher difficulties where enemies have a lot more health. That 15x bonus damage with daggers comes in a lot more handy for me than the 3x bonus with bows. Plus I find it fun to find ways to sneak up behind enemies without being detected.

I started out as just playing the game

Then I became a stealth dude

Then a stealth archer

Once I got like 70 sneak I became a stealth dagger dude.

This was without mods too.

I could sneak roll up behind someone they're dead and then I could quickly roll to another dude and they're dead.

Lotta dead dudes in short span

But really TC, the best way to play your first Skyrim character is to plan nothing. Just play the game and as you level up, put your points into perks you think sound useful. Only, like I said, dont put points in alchemy or alteration, because they just make the game more frustrating than it needs to be.

Yes but read my explanation in post #16 to see why it still isnt worth it. Plus what fun is Skyrim if youre OP all the time? There needs to be some challenge in order to enjoy it.

If you're playing the game and taking advantage of perks, ingredient weight becomes what is effectively a non-issue unless you're carrying 100+ potions everywhere(which is not even remotely needed)
