This topic is already great, it shows how Danganronpa has progressed as a series.

The first case of the Danganronpa games have always been easy to figure out before the trial. D1 with the most obvious hint ever, 11037, and D2 with the floorboards, skewers, and wounds being small holes. But with D3, your pre-trial theorys in post 41 were exactly what the game wanted you to believe, and they were all brought up in the trial, but they were all wrong. I've found that most of the trials in D3 are harder to figure out based on the evidence at a glance, which is why I think D3 has the best trials overall.

Also I'm gonna take a minute here to praise the writers for that twist.

Shuichi works brilliantly as a parallel for the player. Just like Shuichi, we are with Kaede the entire time as we see the story through her eyes. Also, just like Shuichi, we see every suspicious act Kaede performs. However, once again just like Shuichi, we don't think anything of it because why would we? Why would we doubt the person we're playing as?

The signs were all there, but again like Shuichi we choose to ignore them because we don't want to accept the possibility that Kaede is the culprit. When she acted weird around the shot put balls, I just assumed she was upset about the situation they were in. When she was organizing the books, like Shuichi I assumed that she was just a go-getter who doesn't quit. When she started sweeping the floor, I took her word for it that she was just antsy about the situation, but she was more likely just really nervous about what she was about to do.

At the start of the trial she makes the comment "I will use this class trial to find the truth." That seems like an innocuous comment, but that was a borderline admission of guilt, like she was implying that she willingly chose to have a trial. Everything she said and did was a hint at what she had done, but like Shuichi I just looked the other way. I thought the writers were gonna pull another Sayaka by making Shuichi the culprit, but they instead took that kind of twist to the next logical extreme.

Bravo, writers.

Because of the effect Kaede had on Shuichi and how she impacted the other characters to press on, Shuichi became my favorite protagonist of the series by far. It's funny since, when playing as Kaede, I didn't bat 2 eye lashes at the dude. During the free time event, was I going to spend time with him? Nope. I'm Kaede, I'm a hot as hell Stacey. Why would I waste my time with him? Yet, the moment the twist happened, my mind screamed "SAIHARA'S WIFE!! NOOOOOOOOO".

Disagree. Kaede was actually my top suspect for most of the investigation. I caught her putting the shotput ball in her bag as it was happening and thought of her being the one to arrange the books and camera. It was well-hidden, but not impossible to figure out in advance at all.

Also, just a note, your friendship ranks totally reset when you switch to Shuichi. I believe that the two have different sets of conversations with everyone entirely.

They do. I managed to get Kirumi's first convo but now everything is back to 0.

Anyway I am a little cautious about Shuichi becoming the main character. Like I said before I really liked how different Kaede was from the previous two, and Shuichi already seems like he might just be another straight edged dude like Makoto and Hajime. Maybe he'll surprise me idk

Finally, my last main suspect is Shuichi himself. Now, I'm not sure if the writers would actually pull another Sayaka, but Shuichi did have the opportunity to pull this off. We know he went to the basement alone leaving Kaede behind. During that time he could have very well have done it. Plus he could have rigged the cameras a certain way to where he could bypass the sensors. Maybe the receiver lets him remotely turn them off? He seems like a cool guy so I don't wanna doubt him, but you can't trust anyone in these games

The Word/Grammar Nazi in me has to come out here. Someone makes a video speculation and ends up being incorrect is not ironic. They're just wrong. And playing to the developers' hand since Spike Chunsoft hyped up Kaede as the protagonist of V3.
