I suffer from chronic pancreatitis and haven't had a bout in over a year, but I'm feeling that old familiar throb on the right side. I usually stay strict on my dietary stuff, but I may have over done it recently with certain foods and aggravated it. I'll know for sure in the morning. Wish me luck, CE. 2 years ago I had to watch the Superbowl in the hospital. I'm hoping I don't have to watch the playoffs from one of those rooms this weekend.

At least your pancreas does something, mine just sits in my body and takes up space doing nothing

Lol. Wanna trade?

Oh snap, I just had a thought, can I be modded now for flaming my pancreas? Lmfao. Seriously though, I hope I just pulled something or stretched funny or whatever. Being NPO for 3-7 days or so is no picnic. Literally I couldn't have a picnic because I can't eat or drink anything during a flare-up. NPO = nothing per oral. Sorry ladies.

That's odd, I've been having my own vague Crohn's flare-up over the past few days (although I suspect this may be partially due to some of my recent diet.) Yeah it sucks and just reminds you of the time when you were truly suffering. So when your thing comes back do you have to go to the hospital for surgery again or what?

There's no surgery for it. I go to the hospital, get tested, admitted 99% of the time because you never forget the symptoms, and for 3-7 days (on average) I am on IV fluids and pain killers. I hate everyting about it. Even the morphine because it makes me feel itchy and irritable, and it only keeps the pain at bay for like 30 minutes every 4 hours. I'm not allowed to eat or drink anything the entire time. I'm fine without food for a week, but even with IV fluids I get super thirsty. I usually charm one of the nurses into giving me ice chips to suck on to curb the thirst, but I have to spit them out when they're melted because anything you try to digest puts stress on your system and the whole point is to rest the pancreas entirely so it can get better.

Even when I'm able to eat again I have to ease into it or I could re-aggravate it. The worst part of it being chronic, as you know, is you can get flare ups for virtually no reason even when you're adhering to a strict diet.

Last time I stayed at the hospital they told me there was a fair amount of necrotic tissue around my pancreas. I got so freaked out they had to give me something to calm me down. Scary stuff when your doc tells you there are no pancreas transplants and you'd be better off with kidney or liver issues because living donors could be in your family, but not for this.
