I mean at my university you still paid for it, it's just you indicated you needed it, paid it in your tuition, and at some point before the term they just mailed it to you with the lot you were in.

My university had unlimited permits (well, it was a small school so this was possible) so you just had to go to the parking office and pay for them at your leisure. Not sure I could handle having to compete for a fucking permit to park on campus.

(Then again, there are no assigned parking spots. Unless you have a valid reason. Which I do)

Sure. It's still annoying. Like $700 book bills, and revised editions where all they change is the sample problems. Still annoying.

We have two campuses... one is in downtown and the other is out in the goonies.

The parking lot for student is in the goonies one. It's tiny. And there's a shuttle bus between the two campuses.

They just expect the students in the goonies campus to take public transit to downtown, then from there take the shuttle to the goonies campus.

Problem is that from where I am it would take an hour and a half to do that

Heh. Back in my day the system would crash every semester when it was time to sign up for classes. Good luck getting into that one 50 seat class you need to graduate.

This is one of the very many advantages of small colleges and universities. Parking is usually unlimited and sometimes not even zoned for students/faculty staff.
