The writers spent a lot of time on the world, and they did a really good job showing that off too. Often when people do that, they spend too much time going "Look at how much work I put into this world! That's why my [book/movie/whatever] is so good!" But with Bright they showed exactly the amount of work they put into the world that they needed, and, more importantly, they did a decent job of integrating it into the story. The usage of fantasy concepts in modern day settings isn't new but it doesn't seem to be done often either. Rule number one in any movie, you have to keep the mood the same. Either keep the mood the same or ramp it up or ramp it down. I do hope a sequel will come out that expands on such a world. Whether or not the sequel should go into details about ~~Ward being a Bright, I don't know.
