OTTAWAJoshua Boyle, the Canadian man who was held hostage with his American wife and children for five years in Afghanistan and Pakistan, has been arrested and charged with assault, unlawful confinement and other offences that are alleged to have occurred in the weeks since his dramatic rescue from captivity in October.

Boyle, 34, appeared in Ottawa court on New Years Day and remains in police custody.

There is a court order that prevents publication of information that would identify any of the alleged victims.

Boyle faces 15 charges, according to a court document outlining the allegations.

These include:

Eight counts of assault.
Two counts of sexual assault.
Two counts of unlawful confinement.
One count of uttering death threats.
One count of causing someone to take a noxious thing, namely Trazodone. (Trazodone is an antidepressant.)
One count of misleading police.

All of the alleged offences occurred in Ottawa between Oct. 14 and Dec. 30, the document says.

Right from the start this whole situation didn't pass the smell test, so interesting to see who this was directed towards/against and if anything more comes out about his time in Afghanistan.

I honestly was happy when I first heard of his release, because basically anything sticking it to ISIS or Al Qaeda is awesome, but I always thought his whole, "we decided to have more kids while being imprisoned by psychotic extremists" line was bullshit.

At best, it's irresponsible and at worst it's downright suspicious.

Dude has PTSD. You think that they'd come back and everything would go back to normal? After all that time and what they had to endure?

Dude was weird before he made the decision to travel to Afghanistan.

Long and strange story short he was briefly married to the sister of Canada's only Guantanamo Bay resident. Then he marries this other woman (the American he was captured with) and he takes his new bride to hike in the mountains of fucking Afghanistan. Because where else would you go for a honeymoon with your pregnant wife right?

He's a convert sleeper. When info is being withheld from the public and it involves sexual assault and confinement, it means his victims were probably underage. The offenses occurred beginning on Oct 14th, when he and his wife were rescued on Oct 11th. So this guy couldn't wait to return home and establish his own captives.

To add too this, the couple decide that well in captivity by one of the most notorious terrorist groups in the world was the best time to start having children.

I can't begrudge that if they were stuck together with no birth control for years.

It wasn't an accident. They literally said, "hey, let's have a kid".
