but the teacher would take 10 to tell you to put it back down
and then you gotta walk back and collect it

or during earthquake drills they'd tell you to put your head under the desk, what a load of bull, when the earth opens up and swallows someone, being under the desk isn't going to help

A lot of injuries in Earthquakes are caused by objects falling on to people, if I'm not mistaken. So being under a desk could potentially save you from being crushed to death.

Being swallowed by the Earth is a far less likely scenario for the majority of people during an Earthquake.

Hiding under your desk apparently saved you from a nuclear explosion too. I'm sure it's like putting your head between your legs during a plane crash, just tell them to do something so they don't realize their imminent demise is completely unavoidable.

or during lockdowns and the students would just talk, and the teacher would enrage and literally scream "shut up" when the killer could be around the corner

and obviously the killer knows the students are hiding in the classroom

That's not the same thing at all. Hiding under a desk during a nuclear strike was to give people a sense that there was something they could do. To help curb panic. Hiding under a desk in an Earthquake has legitimate uses.

I know. I agree with everything you said. The earthquake discussion seemed to be running out of steam.

They usually checked to make sure everyone was back before class resumed, but not a proper role call. I was frequently truant, so I they caught on pretty quickly that if I didn't return I was at home.
