Poll of the Day > I just played Doki Doki Literature Club. What in the actual....

A community that has pointed me in the right direction on theses sorts of things before pointed this VN out to me and I downloaded it a couple months ago and I finally got around to actually playing it.

I read the warnings.

I read the warnings of people who read the warnings and weren't prepared.

I read the warnings of people who read those warnings.

I saw all but the very last plot twist coming a mile away.

But none of that prepared for any of it. Holy... The very last part especially.
Spoilers: I thought the worst was over and it was all happy sailing from then on out. Then it happened and I was so spooked I immediately restored the deleted file in hopes that it was still less bad.

So after that was all over, I kind of sat in my chair for a good half hour pretty stunned. Finally hopped in Discord with my buddies. After still being out of it for 5 minutes I brought it up.
I said, "Well... I played DDLC... And... And it was something else."
So one of the people still hadn't played it and he sighed and said that he guesses he has to play it now. (He's the kind of guy who only play highly competitive multiplayer games.)
So the three of us watched him play it through screen sharing as talked to him, or rather, listened to him without saying anything so as to not spoil anything, and typed to each other in another chat about his playthrough. 5 hours later, he decided he wasn't prepared either.

So that was a fun day. It sucks that I think it'll be impossible for me to experience anything like that ever again though.

the creators put a level of depth in this game that i absolutely love. its really unique for a game to sort of spill over into the real world the way doki doki does

That's how I felt when I first played this game in December. By the time I got to the first scene that shows off the psychological horror element, it was 2:00 a.m. past mid-might and I was lying in bed when it happened. Surprised I didn't get any nightmares. I knew it was coming up and I was having goosebumps but that escalated hard on me.
