I thought the casino storyline was bad.

I liked:

- puppet yoda, just because he was a puppet and not CGI
- Luke's save the day moment and final scene
- The silver stormtrooper plot arc (maybe the only plot arc that was satisfyingly played out and resolved)
- The hyperspace kamikaze scene was freakin' cool even though it kind of breaks the star wars universe
- the animals were cute even though they were a transparent merchandising grab
- some of the jokes were funny even if everything was too played out for laughs
- that scene with rey in the underground chamber was cool but it made no sense to me at all
- BB8 (with the exception of his deus ex machina move near the end where he somehow commandeered a chicken leg fighter thing)
- oh and I'll add I'm looking forward to that codebreaker character coming back, he was interesting

I agree with most of this. Personally I thought Phasma's send off was lame, why even bring her back just to kill her?

I really liked the animals personally.

I'd add of course the Kylo/Rey/Snoke scene and I liked the outcome of Rey's parents, all of it made sense for me in terms of storytelling. The movies flaws I think are more in execution than the ideas itself

#2 Rose's dramatic sacrifice to save Finn and stop him from sacrificing himself

Which was going to serve what purpose? As far as Rose knew at that point, the First Order was going to blast down the giant doors and kill the handful of Resistance fighters remaining. And then they would have killed the two scrubs in the wrecked up speeders. She would have stopped him from dying a heroic death only to die anyway if Luke didn't show up.

But you don't win the war by sacrificing yourself. You win it by saving the ones you love.

I did not know Benicio del Toro was going to appear in the film. It made me so happy! He's a top 10 favorite actor of mine.

Yeah that guy steals the show anytime he gets on camera.

This conversation seems to be a bit of a battleground over the internet but you can't just go and weaponize hyperspace. That changes everything. It's the ultimate attack. Even a little X wing flown into a destroyer at hyperspeed would obliterate it. And there's nothing you could do about it. I feel like this sort of broke the fragile mechanics that were holding things in place from a narrative perspective.

By killing off Snoke without developing him at all they subverted my expectations that they were going to create an interesting character that wasn't an EU ripoff

This sounded nice in the moment but makes no actual sense.

It shits on the last star wars movie released too lol

Rey not being related to anyone. Could have been Kylo trying to screw with her but I'm happy knowing, for now at least, that she's not a cousin or daughter of someone
