They were talking in homeroom about who each other dates (I'm surprised 6th graders date) and one kid joked with another boy about being gay.

I guess equality isn't there yet even in the younger generation.

Well yeah, they're 6th graders.

Wait until you hear college students still doing it right before graduating.

CE regularly implies another user going out with men or being interested in men as an insult, still.

You should see Japan. Students regularly use gay accusations to get under people's skin and yet have no problem grabbing each other's junk and dry humping each other. How they reconcile the two is beyond me.

Because none of it is seriously, clearly.

They probably look at us and wonder WTF our problem is.

I teach 4th grade and I'm finding that my kids will hear things, like maybe from an older sibling, and will "try it out" not understanding what it means. I've had to have some private discussions with a few of them.

Japan is still pretty conservative. I lived there and am moving back next year. Being openly gay is sill kind of new.

When I was in 4th grade, everyone already knew what gay meant. There was a weird kid who ran around touching other guys because he got picked on all the time and he thought that would scare people away. But that just made him get picked on even more and they called him gay all the time

To be fair, usually if it's just gay jokes, they're just being stupid. If they think someone's actually gay, that's when it gets much worse.

I did have a boy call another "gay" in a not so nice way. I talked to him later and asked him if he knew what it meant. He didn't. He said his older brother calls him gay. Gay is a hard one because I don't want my kids to think there is something wrong with being gay or that it's a bad thing. At the same time I don't want them throwing around a word they don't totally understand.

If equality means that joking around is no longer okay, then the day of equality will be a truly sad one.

Only on CE is it okay to regularly claim people suck off and want to fuck Trump as an insult, but a 6th grader saying something is gay is a horrible offensive thing.

Societys powerful, man. Hell, a lot of bicurious guys dont have gay sex til late middle age...usually after their parents have died or they divorced their wife. Gay dating websites are full of curious 50-60 somethings who have never had gay sex. Also, I dont think SJW teachers can do anything about this either way.

I've had gay friends make fun of me for being straight. They also used to call me a "breeder."

Is that somehow inequality too?

Yeah thats a few people that are your friends that called you a non offensive name. Hopefully youre not being serious. No family would be disappointed in you for being straight.

You think kids are more intelligent for mindlessly calling anything they don't like gay? Were you dropped on your head as a baby?

No, it's because they are intelligent enough to understand that saying that means absolutely nothing and is a non-issue entirely. The fact that you believe it is an issue only reaffirms that they're more intelligent than you.
