I think the idea sounds pretty cool. It gives people a monetary incentive to write FAQs and can reduce the wait time for in-depth FAQs to be released. Whether or not this system has been working for GameFaqs however is something I'm not sure of.

Basically a person who posts an FAQ that fulfills certain requirements before a deadline gets paid.

Oh. I see. I guess that's good for people who can do them. And like you said, it can speed up the process to receive a guide for people who need them. I couldn't, but I also play games weird. And take way too long. Haha. I would need a second play through to write and time would be up for me. Especially since I would feel like I'm rushing. But it could be a good thing.

Sound like it would encourage a lot of poor quality guides.

That is also a possibility. But would they accept those?

Who decides? How much time do they have to proof read, and play through the game to check if the information was accurate?

Example: In Silent Hill 3 the supply availability mechanic does not work the way it was described in the official strategy guide. There are times when trying to reach a deadline you might think things work a certain way. It's not until much later you gain the insight to realize that your initial impression was wrong.

Maybe not all of it. But I would think they would have to check a little. And from the little I've seen, there's also a claim form. That could have something about getting the money back from someone if the guide isn't up to snuff. The claim form probably has something that you would have to sign or agree to. I haven't seen it myself, but they probably have thought of something like this happening. Hopefully, they would cover all angles. It just all depends.

How many people uses text only guides nowadays though?
Sometimes I use guides on GameFAQs when I want to know some specifics and shit.

The bounty program's been there for quite sometime, and Allen usually only accepts quality walkthroughs/guides only. The system's there to encourage authors further.

Those are the only ones I'll use. I like to keep an archive of patches and walk throughs. I'll download the texts FAQs to store but I just ignore the HTML ones.
