In terms of canon:
Origins > Blackgate > Asylum > City > Knight

In terms of gameplay I recommend waiting until after City before playing Origins since Origins essentially takes City's improved gameplay and open-world aspect. Blackgate is a 2D-style Arkham game taking place after Origins but it's not very good.

Thats interesting. A Superman game would be really hard to pull off simply because of how powerful he is. Sure, Superman has a gallery of villains that can hold their own, but you cant really expect a video game where the ONLY people you fight are the super villains.

You gotta have the street level thugs, and none of them pose any threat whatsoever to Superman. I guess you could cheese it and give them all kryptonite guns or some other nonsense, but that just takes away from the experience of actually playing as Superman since thats just not something he encounters very often.

in terms of when it came out: Asylum is the original, City is the sequel, then Origins as the prequel. and i guess Knights.

i've never heard of Blackgate before

Play the series in release order, that is the way they are meant to be played.

Batman Arkham Asylum, then Batman Arkham City, next play Batman Arkham Origins, and finish off the series with Batman Arkham Knight.

You never recommend someone consume something in canonical order first, you go release order first and then chronologically if you feel like it.

Origins is not as good as the main 3 but it is still a solid game, hell it might be the lesser Arkham game but its still better then most games out there.

Iirc, there were heavy rumors about an Origins sequel coming out and also a main game a bit later.

Like with Origins and Knight. I remember Kevin Conroy accidentally spilled the beans by saying he was voicing Batman right after they announced North as Batman in Origins.

Thanks for the feedback guys - looks like I have Asylum, City, and Origins already purchased on Steam, so I'll hold off on Knight for now

Origins is the best in the series. Best plot. Best bosses. Best side quests. All of them are great though.

I get saying Origins is better than City. It needed more time and polish, and I think people were so starved for a good story and bosses in these games that they gave Origins louder applause than it deserves, but it has a ton of ambition for what it is.

Saying it's a stronger product than Asylum is crazy talk though.
