The Pentagon on Friday released data on sexual assault in the military from 2013 to 2016. Reports of sexual assault rose considerably during that time, from 3,604 cases in 2012 to 6,172 in 2016. However, increased reports does not always mean increased incidents of sexual assault, as the Department of Defense estimates one-half to two-thirds of sexual assaults in the military go unreported. The DoD report argues the total number of sexual assaults actually declined from 2014 to 2016 from about 20,300 to about 14,900 even as reports multiplied.

This is not the first time similar data has been collected and published, but it is the first time it has been broken down by base, showing where each assault was reported. Among the bases with higher assault report counts were Norfolk, Virginia, with 270 reports in fiscal year 2016, 211 reports at a collection of bases in South Korea, and 199 at Fort Hood, Texas.

I guarantee that the increase in reported incidents is mostly attributable to more people more readily identifying it and coming forward.

But there is still a massive problem of this in the military, we need to cut out this bullshit notion that soldiers and the military are infallible, and we need to understand the repercussions of military training. Something is clearly wrong.

Guy, and the incident in particular involved several other members of my division pinning me down while one rams their thumb into my asshole, in what was childishly known as "taking one's cookies", and was seen as some form of tradition in the division.

As you can imagine, I brought that shit forward, and absolutely nothing was done because of a "lack of evidence". They don't give a shit about justice for victims, they just want to sweep it under the rug and pretend the problems don't exist.

I suppose that would explain why, lol.

I worked with Marines on amphibs, LHD-6 USS Bonhomme Richard and LHD-2 USS Essex. They were a hardy lot, but most of them were just casualties waiting to happen in transit. Twice, we had Marines go overboard because they slipped off the weatherdecks while napping on catwalks. Hard workers though, and definitely wouldn't wanna be on the opposite side of a fight with them. We had a talent competition between our crew and the Marines with us there, it was pretty entertaining.

Yeah that sounds about right. The only thing the Marines trained me to do well was basically be homeless. (I was an infantryman so no actual skill)

Yeah, almost none of what I did in the Navy translates to anything outside of the military (except maybe something like Security or Law Enforcement, due to ATFP watchstanding), so I've basically had to start working my way up from nothing once I got out. Currently using my GI Bill to be a full-time student, working on getting a degree in Criminal Forensics Science.
