The game is great to look at but that is about it, they got rid of useful items for a bunch of so-so items, big dungeons for a bunch of so-so shrines, good weapons for a bunch of so-so breakables and the list goes on and on. I would say Skyward Sword is the only worst Zelda game. Pretty much the definition of wide as an ocean deep as a puddle

I really like BOTW, but I'm not going to lie I'd like it a lot more if I had a hookshot and my weapons didn't fucking break all the time.

It's legitimately a shitty form of balancing.

I would put it as GOTY over Odyssey if they didn't sacrifice the dungeons, The weapons shouldn't break AS easily as they do, especially early game, but I think that system is okay otherwise.

The dungeons were really god awful. They should have been labyrinths with a combat focus (imagine Zelda 1 style) since the majority of the shrines were puzzle focused.

On top of that, the shrines should have had more variety to their appearances.

I get that they were going for a whole "survival" thing with the weapons, but it didn't work IMO since they constantly threw weapons at you anyways. Should have just had upgrade able Sword/Staff/Axe IMO.

i play on pc with a mod that makes weapons have infinite durability, and it makes the game waay waayy too easy. i can see why they put it in considering how easy the shit already is lol. i'm playing through for the first time now, just did the first divine beast. The boss fight on the prince zoras back was my favorite part of the game so far but jesus waterblight ganon was easy. The whole divine beast itself felt like a basic shrine puzzle tbh. Are the rest of them like that? :(

I lost interest when I read that there were few dungeons. It probably means there aren't many boss fights either.

And, no. I'd rather have a dozen small dungeons than to have four of them which go on for hours. That was just so much fun in the Water Temple. Let's go back and do that again.

lol

It's four dungeons that last maybe 20-30 minutes, tops.

Each has a boss fight but all the bosses look the exact fucking same, although they all require different tactics.

The shrines are alright, but after a while of playing through I just stopped caring about finding them because with how easy temporary heart foods are to find, there's no urgency to raise your max health. With stamina foods and potions, there's no urgency to raise your max stamina. It's the type of game you play if you just like to interact with a world and it's mechanics because when you stop and take a good look at it, there's no real substance to the game past that. Every other Zelda has that same exploration but it leaves you thirsty for it because obtaining a new skill or tool opens up more of the world you've already gone through and it encourages you to go back. With this game being so large it felt like they wanted you to have a change of pace often because once you found the obvious stuff while running around, there was no reason to go back.

*shrug*

Honestly, I think it was a response to the people that cried about Skyward Sword not having a proper overworld. Their response was to make a game that was almost nothing but overworld with just token Dungeons.

I still liked BOTW a lot but it could have been a whole lot better. I don't know why the fuck Nintendo has such a boner for going all in on their gimmicks now.

It's alright, but like everyone else said the weapon system sucks and the dungeons suck.

I don't like how hardcore fans try to defend this by saying buy the DLC. The Master Trials were dogshit and we still have no fucking clue what the 2nd DLC will be, but I'm going to take a guess that it is going to be more waggle puzzles.

It's my GOTY. I loved it.

It really felt like the goal was to simply explore. Not following quest markers for 80 hours. Just look for things. The door isn't going to be locked because you haven't picked the key from a dead bandit yet. If you find it and if you can reach it you can do it now.

I liked the weapon durability. I never felt attached to the weapons. They're disposable. This encourages me to throw them, burn them, use them as bait for lightning, attack enemies with magnesis and a sword etc. If I lose them it doesn't matter. If I could repair them I would have constantly repaired my best weapons and that would be busy work. With this system I just use what's around me and keep my best gear if I'm struggling.

I liked the shrine format. A long 2-4 hour dungeon doesn't really fit the design of this game. But it would be good if they were expanded on a bit. I would suggest themed shrines to replace them instead. Something that's like a mix of a labyrinth and a dungeon would be really cool.

It's a nice bonus to walk around a hill and find a hidden treasure chest in a Legend of Zelda game. I wouldn't want to make that the focus though.

The point of BOTW was to recreate what the original game was like. Instead of the LTTP/Ocarina format.

If they wanted to recreate the feeling of the first game, they should have gone for the kinetic pace of the game. When you have arrows or fire balls coming at you from all sides, you're spinning like a dynamo, blocking everything with your shield, and you come out of that 6 against 1 fight unscathed, you feel like Bruce Lee.

That to me was far more memorable than the interesting but slightly tedious task of bombing every inch of wall to see if you'd find a hidden entrance somewhere.

BOTW is more like the former than the latter. Though it more rewards logic when it comes to fighting.

My main problem with BotW is the broken combat. You can pause at any time during a fight and full heal yourself over and over again. They should've made it so you had to press a button and heal in real time like in Dark Souls / Bloodborne. And it shouldn't be nearly so easy to spam the flurry attack.

Also the final boss of the game was such a fucking bad joke. Calamity Ganon was fine, but the Beast Ganon "fight" was laughably bad. The game went out with a fart instead of with a bang.
