Wait too long, and I start growing cool to the idea. Three companies since Mid-October have initiated their hiring process with me, and we are still far from resolved for all three.

The interviewing is too disruptive, and I am not shaking things up where I am for a gamble.

What will most likely happen, is that I will stay where I am. Maybe for two years or so.

Yay . . .

If you don't get a call back within 3 days you're probably not getting hired. They decide pretty quickly.

And the worst part is the process to find the "perfect" employee is both ineffective and inefficient. It's well known tgat employers will pass on applicants with perfect qualifications because of superficial reasons during in person interview process.

Qualifications don't mean shit if you seemed like an asshole during the interview.

I used to think that, but this isn't true. I literally had to call back after about a week. Then after my SECOND interview, I had to call back after a week again (got no answer).

Then, they called me back a few days later to set up for my THIRD and final interview.

this is blatantly false in a lot of cases, mostly when you're dealing with large corporations. They move really slowly

It can be. Tbh I'd rather there just be more honesty and straight up answers. I don't like how you can leave an interview and you possibly won't hear anything whatsoever. I understand bigger companies must do a lot of interviews, but it'd be nice if the interview process guaranteed an answer from the employer, yes or no, within X days.

I mean unless somebody really fucks up the interview, choosing between applicants comes down to whose resume is better or just who gave a better first impression (which can be affected by like a million things)

I've consulted for quite a few recruiting / hiring startups and realized just how outdated HR systems are. It's not surprising when companies have massive layoffs, major retention problems, etc.

Depends on the company I guess. Last two jobs I had I was hired within a week of speaking to the recruiter.

And yet the last 2-3 jobs I've applied for have gone on for months.

There's different kinds of roles and different schools of thought. It's an expensive and time consuming process, but what's even more expensive and time consuming is employing someone, training them up and then them leaving immediately.

It was 3 months between my interview and my first day of work but then again it was government related

Edit: 3. I was thinking it was February for some reason but my interview was March 1st and my first day of work was June 20th. I first contacted them in January.

It took 2 years to get hired for me. In addition to the time factor, I need proof of residence for the past 3 years, a lie detector test, 3 oral interviews, a written test, a drug test, 2 psychological test, a physical agility test, and an interview with the commissioner. Asinine.

And this isn't a job where I'm making six figures

It is far more important to find someone that fits with the company and social culture than qualifications. You can teach a monkey to do 80% of jobs, but the wrong person (awkward, abrasive, etc) can destroy the very fragile office mojo

Most large companies have posting rules that the job needs to be advertised internally for 30 days, externally for 30 more days, and interviewing needs to last anywhere between 2 weeks and 30 days. I work for a Fortune 500 company and a vacant position at the very best case scenario, takes a minimum of 90 days of just posting and first round interviews. The last open sales spot we had took almost 9 months to fill and the majority of applicants were headhunted anyway

Do you? There is a point where the taxes get so high between state, fed, and FICA, there is no point in really pushing for more money. You can watch 30 hours of overtime turn into a few hundred dollars after taxes, which is simply not worth working almost an extra week for
