In what should have been immediately apparent to everyone, this was indeed a hate crime against Christians. You need to start acknowledging this. Furthermore, the guy had been dishonorably discharged from the military, which means that he already could not legally own a firearm. So rather than talking about gun control and this and that, you need to look at the sources that caused him to hate Christians.

Yeah it's no surprise the resident Christian hater would come to say this.

Also in my subject line it should have said preached, not praised. I screwed that up.

Oh right, what happened to the mentally deranged excuse then? That's what Trump said the problem is. Curious that now you have a motive you don't think mental health is a factor.

I would say that anyone needs to be deranged to go kill people. That doesn't mean that they don't have motives for who they're killing.

Agreed, but if the real problem is that they're sick in the head then really the motivations take a back seat right? A person with extreme OCD will beat you senseless for putting a spoon in the wrong place. Doesn't mean you need to examine discrimination against spoons.

That's far too simplistic, and I don't know why you're so eager to bury the narrative on this. If it was a deranged Christian who went on a murdering spree at an atheist convention, would you not want to talk about his motives?

A month ago, I became scared to go to concerts. Now I'm scared to go to church. What's next?

Talking about his motives is fine but you dressed up this topic like there's a brooding problem in society of hate crimes against Christians. This issue here is a mass shooter got into a Church and was able to kill nearly 30 people unstopped. The issue is not the persecution of Christians by atheists.

Funny his linked in profile says something different. It says he's a loyal Christian who worked as a teacher for another church. Really having some atheist sites as favorites means nothing. I'm a deist and I have atheist and Christian sites as favorites. People are jumping to conclusions with the information we have.

What? I didn't say anything like that. LinkedIn is basically a resume, it's filled with propping yourself up. Maybe at some point the guy was involved in Sunday School, but it's obviously not recently. More recently he had become angered that "his parents worshipped an invisible man in the sky."

The system failed because it's a fucking joke and not actually taken seriously by those in charge and is ridiculously easy for stores to circumvent or straight up ignore regulations.

And if anyone speaks up against said stores they are met with massive resistance from the right for an inch while the NRA flexes their ridiculous influence. It's a fucking joke

Yeah chances are he was a pissed off Atheist. Just given the current state of this country I can see this being used by people to hurt all non believers. Different Atheist bloggers will be blamed for his actions. Maybe it will even lead to Trump condemning atheists and non believers as a whole. I can see this being used as a push towards God in schools and the government and further destruction of our secular government which the Religious right would love to do.

Oh sorry I am sounding like a conspiracy theorist nutcase.

But yeah he was more then likely an atheist just don't blame all non believers for this man's actions.

You can only blame the man. Only he made that decision. We can look at what influenced him to make that decision though. Case in point:

We're meant to look at what influenced him and ask why. Maybe he believed that Trump voters are all Nazis, so he thought he was doing a good thing. Apparently he was an avid CNN viewer, which means all the propaganda they spew out all day to make people hate Trump could have effected him. How does a good Muslim being radicalized? How does a kid who was raised in a Christian family start to despise his parents for it? There are a number of influences.

You know CNN isn't as anti trump as people think. I actually watch CNN and it's nowhere near Fox news was when Obama was president. Apparently anti trump = not praising him all the time.

Yes, we should look at his various potential motivations and the circumstances that may have lead to his decision. But what are we to specifically take from the idea that an atheist wanted to and successfully murdered a group of Christians?

Literally every story they do on him is negative. Even when Trump is doing positive things, they always turn it into a negative. That is harmful.

I don't even know who madfoot is. It was in a lot of the news last night that he was a CNN fan. And as for their constant bias, here's what they were up to yesterday.
