I love Elon. He's a huge role model of mine.

Some of his comments on AI have annoyed me, but I think it's more the fact that the media goes crazy than the fact that he makes off the cuff remarks during interviews about AI.

When it comes to his actual companies, his presentations, the projects he is working on, he is doing some fantastic work.

Neil deGrasse Tyson does say some rather stupid things over twitter that fit very well at r/iamverysmart. He might be smart, but his attitude turns people away.

Elon Musk doesn't know jack shit about AI other than employing computer vision researchers for Tesla, rocket scientists for SpaceX, and tossing around money so people can curate preexisting python libraries and other loose frameworks for OpenAI. Him being an authority on the subject is like saying my division chief is a leading authority on robotics, machine learning, AI, and NLP because of his employees when 95% of his time is doing paperwork. Yet he runs his mouth constantly about doomsday scenarios as if he just got finished watching a Terminator movie and 2001: A Space Odyssey and didn't even glance at a AI/ML paper published this century

The cherry on top of his antics was his short lived argument with Zuckerberg where he channeled his inner Donald Trump and essentially said "nuh uh I smarter than u trust me"

NDT acts like a teenage know it all angstheist (coming from someone who considers himself agnostic or whatever the hell people call it when you don't give a crap about religion), and Mike Rowe is always on a holier than u spoiled millennials ego trip as if that meme hasn't been run into the ground by now

And das it mane

It's not just doomsday stuff he's running his mouth on. Hyperloop and BFR are highly unrealistic projects he's talked about as the "future of travel". His Hyperloop has yet to really gone anywhere after the competitions he's done for them with colleges. BFR is another concept that won't get anywhere as well.

He's an ideologist who wants to create the future stuff you see in sci-fi.

Traveling by Rocket is far more dangerous than Airplane.

On top of that the whole go anywhere in under an hour is complete bullshit too. Fueling a rocket is the last thing you want to do, because a fueled rocket is dangerous. There are tons of checks that go into making sure a rocket is ready to launch and won't explode. Plus you can't launch a rocket anywhere near where people live so you have to ship people to the rocket which takes time.

I agree that rockets being used for intercity travel aren't happening anytime soon (if ever), but Musk was planning to use those rockets for all kinds of things. Missions to orbit, the moon and even Mars.

Rockets are not bad for travel to the Orbit, Moon, or Mars. Using them to travel to places on the planet are not good uses for them.

Although I guess I should of mentioned BFR in terms of the Earth to Earth thing he talked about not the rocket itself.
