if someone was trying to kill your pet and the only way to stop it was to kill the attacker, would you do it?

My cat doesn't leave my house, so that means they're in my house against my will, so absolutely yes and I wouldn't even get in legal trouble. Wouldn't even lose sleep over it

Probably. I like my dog better than most people, especially the kind of people who go around trying to kill people's pets.

I look at it like if someone was trying to kill my child. What do you think any parent would do in that situation?

What is the law on killing someone in the attempted act of killing a pet?

I never really thought about it, but I would hope that the right to defense would extent to pets and livestock. I hope you're not legally obligated watch your pets die for lack of the ability to use lethal force to preserve them. If someone is about to kill your animal right in front of you, it stands to reason that they intend to do the same to you as well.

yeah if they killed your pet and had a weapon you could say it was self defense easily

My dog is too old and unwell to defend himself so I'm hyper sensitive to his needs. I'd totally put someone down if my dog needed me to.

Well if the pet happens to be a police dog, any acts of violence against it are treated exactly the same as if it was committed against a uniformed human police officer. This is because police dogs are technically officers, so all the laws that protect officers are in full effect.

Don't know how it is with personal pets, but I imagine you can hit them with attempted murder if they were coming at you.

cops are hypocrites towards dogs. they treat police dogs as equal to human officers. but they give no rights at all to pet dogs.

Well yeah. I'd kill someone that was in my house trying to steal inanimate objects so trying to hurt my pet is a no brainer

Depending on where you live, cant you shoot somebody who is stealing your property? In some places you probably can, while in Seattle you probably go to jail for talking back.

Absolutely. My two dogs and cat are all awesome.

My yorkie is basically a baby and loves her entire family so much, including sleeping between my parents at night in their bed and loving to curl up and play with anyone that she's known for a while. My beagle isn't quite as intense but she's one of the most good-natured dogs I've ever seen, she just wants a bit of love and food/sleep and she's happy, and she approaches anyone. My kitty is a bit more spoiled but I think she genuinely thinks of me as her dad, she follows me everywhere and loves it when I cradle her but won't let anyone else hold her, and often curls up on me to sleep.

I love all three to death and I'd absolutely stop anyone who was trying to kill them. None are threatening at all so anyone trying to kill them would be entirely out of malice so I wouldn't feel a bit sorry about stopping them.

Yes, my dogs are always in my house or right by me outside so someone would have to be going out of their way to try to kill me dogs, in which case I'd be dropping them right there, or attempting to at least.
