Illinois is the state that's the closest microcosm to the rest of the United States from a demographics and rural/urban breakdown. So, if you hate Illinois, you hate America.

Real talk, we have more than our fair share of issues, with a broken political system with an idiot governor and a corrupt legislature (again, like America) and chunks of Chicago are practical war zones, but the good parts of Chicago go toe to toe with any other city on the planet, there are lots of great places to live, the economy otherwise is great aside from political-related stagnation, and there are plenty of good small- to mid-sized towns upstate and downstate.

Legit great state.

I mostly put that because of the contrast (Chicago's far & away the largest city in any "miles of corn" state) and because I know jack shit about Illinois outside Chicago.

Only the south side... actually the west side's supposedly even worse... and I guess the east side's kinda rough too...

Well at least there's the north side... even if there's some rough patches in areas like Rogers Park & Uptown...

I just moved from a lifetime in IL to Vegas and let me tell you. Illinois sucks. You have either nice neighborhoods or straight up ghettos. And it can be divided simply by crossing a street

Overtaxed like motherfucker, overpopulated, traffic is the worst in the nation.

But damn if I don't miss Chicago

I'm originally from Illinois - born on the north side of Chicago. Lived there from my birth to September 1978, and then again from October 1982 to September 1985.

Dad was in the Navy, so we had to relocate every now and again.

From what I experienced, living there wasn't bad. From what I've heard...holy crap. I'll probably give it a 5/10.
