I'm not married because I haven't found someone I feel a safe enough gamble that I won't wake up next to in 10 years hating. I also don't wanna come home 10 years later after playing one too many rounds of golf to the locks on my house being changed and my salary halved.

This generation has become overworked, under-compensated, over-monetized, and just in general given far too few chances to actually develop "normally". The same entities that benefit from this traditional (not in the conservstive sense, but just in the general "progression of life" sense) societal structure have strained it too much and ensured that younger generations won't be able to rise into the roles they were conditioned to work towards.

Adults age 30-32 also graduated college at the height of the Great Recession (likewise, 26-28 year-olds graduated high school).

The college tuition bubble continues to grow while income remains stagnant and unemployment caps off a slow recovery. Most adult in my age range have student loan debt and very few of us had jobs or savings available to take advantage of the the housing price dip in 2012.

Couples age 20-34 can't afford enough square footage to start a family near their work. They also work more temporary, contractor and gig economy jobs than any generation before, which all make it hard to plant roots in a house. They rent, they work long and unpredictable hours, and this puts stress on their relationships. Unstable careers and temporary jobs/housing leads to the same traits in their relationships.

Things have changed. But I think it's for the better. People getting married in their teens and early 20's isn't as common as it used to be. I don't think that's bad.

The stat also is pretty meaningless if it isn't including de facto couples who aren't interested in marriage or haven't gotten around to it yet. I was in a relationship for 8 years before I got married.
